a.b.c. (Advocates for Better Communication)
The mission of a.b.c. is to make it possible, through education and advocacy, for people with all degrees of hearing loss to participate fully in society.
Advocates for better communication (a.b.c.) is a volunteer group concerned with awareness, access and advocacy for the communication needs of the over 30 million Americans with hearing loss. Allied with the League for the Hard of Hearing in New York, a.b.c. reviews and evaluates communication access in all areas of daily living, including health care, cultural institutions, travel, work, school and home, and provides help and instruction to people with hearing loss. We also commend organizations and individuals who provide comprehensive communication access so that people with all degrees of hearing loss can participate with dignity. We encourage and assist organizations in improving their communication accessibility, and, in doing so, we advocate for people with hearing loss. We seek to ensure that all Americans with hearing loss are offered the services they are entitled to under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
